Printer detection issues

If you're having trouble detecting a printer that you want to connect directly to KioskBuddy, there are some steps you can try to alleviate the issue. The steps you will want to try depends on the type of interface your printer is using.

Note: If you're using a TSP100iii, you can use Star Micronics's TSP100iii Utility app to test if the printer can be detected.

Network printers

  • Make sure the iPad running KioskBuddy and the printer are on the same local network. KioskBuddy can't detect the printer if they're on different networks.

  • Try opening your iOS Settings, searching for KioskBuddy, then tapping on the KioskBuddy entry to view its permissions. Check what's currently set for Local Network (see below in red). It should be enabled. KioskBuddy asks for the permission when you first install the app but it's possible that you may have denied it.

Bluetooth Printers

  • Double check to ensure Bluetooth is enabled for your iPad. You can do this by opening the iOS Settings app, then navigating to the Bluetooth section.

  • Make sure the iPad is connected to the printer under iOS Settings > Bluetooth Section > My Devices.

  • Make sure there's nothing interfering with the Bluetooth connection. Things like walls and thick objects in the way of the printer and iPad can hurt the connection.

  • Try re-pairing the Bluetooth connection by forgetting the printer by navigating to iOS Settings > Bluetooth Section > My Devices > Information Icon > Forget This Device, then re-connecting the printer.

  • Try opening your iOS Settings, searching for KioskBuddy, then tapping on the KioskBuddy entry to view its permissions. Check what's currently set for Bluetooth (see below in red). It should be enabled. KioskBuddy asks for the permission when you first install the app but it's possible that you may have denied it.

WiFi Printers

  • Make sure the iPad running KioskBuddy and the printer are on the same WiFi network.

USB Printers

  • KioskBuddy does support USB printers, but only when the printer is directly connected to the iPad. If the printer is connected via the USB hub on the Square Stand, it won't be detected. Unfortunately KioskBuddy only has access to the payment functionality of the Square Stand and not any connected peripheral devices like printers.
